Senior Group Alaskan Cruise Packages
Glaciers by sea, Denali by land — planned for a senior group.
Quote a Cruise for Our GroupSenior group Alaskan cruise packages are among the most requested trips for clubs and communities: glaciers, wildlife and mountain scenery, seen from the comfort of a ship, then deepened with a few days on land near Denali. Two lines in particular run their own Alaska land operations, which simplifies the logistics for a group.
Cruise-and-Land Packages for 2027
Princess Cruises
Princess has announced 28 cruisetour itineraries for 2027, using its own rail service to reach the Denali area and its two wilderness lodges there, including the Denali Princess Wilderness Lodge near the national park entrance.
Holland America Line
Holland America’s 2027 Land+Sea Journeys combine a cruise with time in Denali, travel on its glass-domed McKinley Explorer train and stays at its own properties, including a transformed Denali lodge for 2027 and a dining package at its signature properties.
Cruise-only Alaska
Groups wanting a simpler trip can sail the Inside Passage round trip from Seattle or Vancouver, adding optional day excursions in port instead of a multi-night land tour.
Planning Alaska for a Senior Group
- Choose the direction. Land-first or cruise-first itineraries; some groups prefer the cruise at the end to rest.
- Count hotel changes. Fewer one-night stops mean less packing and unpacking.
- Check walking and step requirements on rail cars, motorcoaches and excursions.
- Pack in layers. Alaska summer weather swings from warm sun to cold rain in a day.
- Plan for scenic cruising days. Glacier days are best seen from sheltered public decks or a balcony.

Shore Days and Excursions
In Juneau, Skagway and Ketchikan many excursions are gentle: whale watching, scenic rail rides, glacier viewing and cultural centers. Our sister site Alaska Port Excursions lists excursions port by port, including options with minimal walking. For travelers who use a wheelchair or walker, Accessible Ocean Cruises explains accessible cabins and port access.
When to Go
Alaska’s cruise season runs roughly May to September. Late spring and early fall can be quieter, while midsummer brings the longest days and warmest weather. Popular cruisetour dates sell early, so groups should start planning at least a year ahead.
Keeping an Alaska Group Together
Land tours split a cruise ship’s guests into many coaches and trains, so ask that your group’s members are booked on the same cruisetour itinerary and departure. Plan a group dinner on the land portion as well as on the ship, and appoint someone to count heads at each transfer. Members who prefer not to do the land tour can join the cruise only and meet the group on board.
Alaska Group Questions
Are Alaska cruisetours suitable for older travelers?
Yes, with planning. Land portions involve early starts, rail and motorcoach travel and several hotel changes, so allow for rest days and choose itineraries with fewer one-night stays.
When should a group book Alaska for 2027?
As early as possible. Cruisetour lodges and rail space are limited, and Alaska’s season runs only from about May to September.
